Moore County Commissioners and the Dumas City Commission recently entered into a partnership with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the High Plains Resource Conservation and Development office to sponsor a tire amnesty program this month.

Through the program, residents can dispose of used tires at a location at the landfill on South Maddox free of charge during regular operating hours. This will apply to anyone in Cactus, Dumas and Sunray and to those in the county outside the normal landfill mileage restrictions.

The program is available for communities to address stockpiles of unwanted tires and help prevent illegal dumping. Another benefit to our citizens are safety and health issues as these tire stockpiles often provide homes for unwanted rodents and snakes. The no-charge disposal service is available to all Moore County residents; however commercial tire retailers are not eligible. Any questions about this program should be addressed to Dumas City Hall at 935-4101.
