Visit to Ronald McDonald House

On Wed. Dec. 1, 2010, the FCCLA and 5th/6th grade Student Council members went to the Ronald McDonald house and BSA hospital.  The purpose of the trip was for these two organizations to present to the Ronald McDonald house five bags of aluminum tabs and paper goods.  The organizations held a contest in the month of October to see which campus could collect the most aluminum tabs.  The winning campuse would then receive a long lunch break at the end of the drive. The middle school campus won the long lunch.  After presenting the tabs to the Ronald McDonald house sponsor, the students were taken on a tour of the facilities and learned that the tabs would be recycled, and the money from it would be used for families that stayed at the house while their child is in the hospital.
FCCLA also sponsored a costume contest for high school. The students paid a dollar for the privilege to wear a Halloween costume on Friday, Oct. 29, 2010.  The proceeds were donated to the Children's Miracle network.  Megan Roland, CMN coordinator at BSA hopsital, accepted the check and told students that the funds would be used to benefit patients in the Panhandle area.  Both high school and the middle school students were treated to a tour of the nursery and pedicatric unit at the hospital.
Sponsors for the trip were Leanne Holloway (FCCLA) and Tammy Whiteley (5th/6th grade Student Council)
