Elias Jaquez died of his injuries at the Lubbock Burn Unit on Wednesday. Volunteer Elias Jaquez from Cactus was helping with  a grass fire in Moore County on Saturday, April 11, 2001.  The truck that the firemen were on got stuck in the sand in the path of the fire and the fireman had to flee.  Jaquez fell and was caught in the fire and received burns over 60 percent of his body.  
In Elias honor flags will be flown at half-staff today and tomorrow as well as the day of his funeral.
On Monday, April 25, a fallen hero will ride his final firetruck and be laid to rest at North Lawn Cemetery in Dumas.  The Patriot Guard Riders will form a flag line that all are welcome to be a part of to bid farewell to our fallen hero.  The flag line will form between 9:30 and 10 am at the Masonic Lodge and line the way to the North Lawn Cemetery. Flags will be available for those attending.
Services at 11:00 am at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
A large crowd is expected. If you wish to be part of this procession, please follow instructions given by officials.
