NORTH PLAINS BABE RUTH LEAGUE RECEIVES $10,000 FROM MONSANTO FUND TO HELP IMPROVE FACILITIES

DUMAS, Texas– North Plains Babe Ruth League today announced it has received $10,000 from the Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Company. The money will be used to help improve North Plains Babe Ruth League’s playing facilities. The League was started in 1956 to help develop young men not just as baseball players, but as respectable young men.

“This July, Dumas hosted the 13-year-old State Tournament and we’ll also be hosting the 16 to 18 year-old State Tournament due to our efforts to upgrade our facilities, “said Gary Edwards, North Plains Babe Ruth League Treasurer. “In fact, other than San Antonio, it’s our understanding Dumas will be the only city with two lighted regulation ball parks in the same facility. With that being noted, we may have the opportunity to host the Babe Ruth World Series here in Dumas starting in August of 2012.”
A chance to host the Babe Ruth World Series means potentially more revenue for local businesses, Edwards said. Not only would hotels see more business, but local shops, gas stations, restaurants, etc. would profit, as well.
Monsanto Company also sees this as a win-win.
“Monsanto couldn’t be happier to help support such an impactful organization,” said Scott Buchanan, Monsanto DEKALB Sorghum Production Site Lead. “Monsanto is dedicated to supporting the farming communities where we live and work.”
“We’re pleased to team up with Monsanto Fund to help provide maintenance to our facilities that is long overdue,” said Edwards.
Monsanto’s Dumas site has been in production for more than 40 years. With the help of Monsanto Fund, it plans to continue give back to the community by helping support organizations like North Plains Babe Ruth League annually.
