Today is “Take Your Pet to Work Day”, but for Carolyn Moore, administrative assistant for the judge of Moore County, that’s every day. Daily, she brings her dogs, Gracie and Chance, to work with her. “Maltese are great inside dogs since they don't shed and they don’t bother people’s allergies,” Moore says. “They are also very well behaved and very social. Everyone here loves the dogs and attorneys that come in are impressed with a ‘pet-friendly’ courthouse. I work for a great judge who not only allows me to bring my dogs every day, but encourages it. It lightens the tension and the mood that sometimes prevails on docket days.”
This courthouse is also fortunate to have a courthouse cat. The blue-eyed Justice just showed up one day, happily accepted food and soon received shots and his own collar, as well. He often stays in the County Clerk’s office. “He just became part of the family,” Moore says.

Dan Truelock wins 2015 Dogie Days Truck

Dumas resident Dan Truelock  won the 2015 Red Silverado Pickup tonight.  Boss Lion Rowdy Rhoades announced the winner at tonight's drawing.  Rowdy said, "I know this person".  The smiling Dan Truelock step forward to claim his prize.  After getting his picture made with this year's sweetheart Christian Rhoades, Dan was trying to text his wife, Hazel who was with their son riding rides.  Finally she received the text and texted back OMG!  The Lions got his picture with Bruce Milbern and Buddy Trent the main ticket sales people and then with Head Wrangler Deana Houlette.  Hazel Truelock with Scout their son showed up just in time to get their picture made also.

Wanda Truelock, Dan's mother said that Dan always comes to the midway every year to see if his name will be called since he was a kid.  Well Dan you won't have to wait anymore unless you want too.

Who said we wanted to ride.

It just goes to show that not everybody is happy to ride the rides at the Dogie Days Carnival even if it is just the Kars. -

Rooster Eggs and Drink Stands are now in the permanent buildings that the Dumas Noon Lions built several years ago.

Ring Toss, Duck Pond and Milk Bottles are on the same side as the Basketball Toss and the Striker.

The city commissioners discussed a problem that I'm not sure if it is their problem or landowners problem.  What I do know is the person who is responsible for creating the mess will probably never see any fines, punishment or nothing.  Remember I am now just giving you my opinion on this subject.  This is what I heard last night at the city meeting Monday night:

A man owed 100 acres of land on 8th Street that had been annexed into the city when the Business Park was annexed and asked the city for utilities and other benefits of being in the city.  As we all know if you want such benefits the landowner has to pay for it to be developed just like any other land developer.  Now this is where it gets interesting......of course the city had to deny services till this landowner gets with the city manager, city inspector and plat out this land for development if that is what he is wanting to do.  Nothing happens with land for a long time.  Sorry I forget how long ago said man asked for services.  But this is what makes me upset......this landowner later starts selling his land off in five acre increments telling the new owners that all they have to do is go to the city and request water and other benefits.  Grrrrrrr.  Shame on that landowner he knew they couldn't get service.  Now the city officials have the new landowners wanting service on land that a lot of them put their life savings into and now can not use this land because it was not developed for housing.  I fear that our city officials will not be able to help these new landowners because it really is not the city's place to pay for these services.  How can this group of people band together and come up with the money necessary to pay for city services?  That is the million dollar question that I fear will elude every body and nobody will be a winner in this scenario except the original landowner who took the money and ran.

Dogie Days Winners from 2009 to 2014

Every year we hear the Dumas Noon Lions Club asking us to buy a chance on a vehicle.   Prices have varied over the years but if you ask any of the winners of the past few years I bet they would tell you it's well worth the cost.  Besides just think of the 40 plus agencies that benefit from each and every ticket sold.  So next time your asked if you would like to buy a chance you just might want to find the change to get one.   That could be the winning ticket.  If you think only out of town people win not so.  Since 2009 only local Moore County residents have won the give-away vehicle and only one of the winners has been a man!

Foster Lamb is the winner here.  Only man out of six years.
