I Can Make a Difference
Join The Movement!
On April 30, 2011, I'll be participating in the 2011 Walk MS: Dumas at McDade Park. This event attracts hundreds of walkers from across the city for a memorable event. The walk is hosted by the National MS Society, and the proceeds from the event go support our mission of creating a world free of multiple sclerosis.
Why I Walk
Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment, made possibly from the funds raised in events like the Walk MS, are moving us closer to a world free of MS.
Why You Should Sponsor Me
I’m walking to create a world free of multiple sclerosis, and you can join me in the movement by sponsoring these efforts. The money that we raise together will not only support research for a cure tomorrow, but also provide programs which address the daily challenges of people living with MS today. Across the region this year, the Walk MS series is striving to raise at least $1.5 million, but it takes the commitment and dedication of thousands to make that a reality. Any amount you can contribute does make a difference.

Deadline to register to vote in May 2011 election is April 14
Our city election is a simple election compared to Amarillo who has what 10 or 11 candidates running for Mayor or Fort Worth who have 109 candidates running for Mayor. Our city election consist of two candidates running for City Commissioner.
Those two candidates are Steve Bodnar and Gabriel Rodriguez who have filed to run for the two-year unexpired term left vacant by Don Parsons in February. It is just as important for voters to get out and vote for one of these candidates as it would be if we had several candidates.
It is up to you to decide if how your city is managed is important to you or not. Register to vote and make a difference in your own life.
To register to vote, applicants may go to the Texas Secretary of State’s website or go to your county courthouse for more information. In order to vote registration must be completed by April 14.

Dumas Earns National Top 100 Recognition
Dumas, Texas Named Site Selection Magazine “Top 100” Micropolitan
DUMAS, TEXAS -- Dumas, Texas was named a Top 100 Micropolitan city for economic development and corporate real estate projects by Site Selection Magazine in their March 2011 edition. Dumas tied for 74th out of 576 micropolitan areas. The U.S. Census Bureau defines a micropolitan area as a rural county whose largest city does not exceed a population of 50,000; Dumas has a population of nearly 15,000. The ranking is established among all U.S. micropolitan areas for total corporate real estate deals and projects for 2010 that meet the criteria for inclusion in the Conway New Plant Database. Dumas and Brenham, Texas were the only Texas communities that made this prestigious list for the year. This recognition is the second time in the last 5 months that Dumas has received national recognition for economic development activity. In November 2010, Dumas was selected as a Top 5 Community for Wind Energy Business by Expansion Solutions Magazine for its proactive measures and positive business climate for new wind energy related businesses.
