Lake Meredith levels continue to drop but if you go to the National Parks Service website it tells you nothing of the drought that is continuing at our local recreation area.  Be sure to go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for the most current information. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/meredith/

Dumas EDC Community Development Grant Program
In 1999, the Dumas Economic Development Corporation (Dumas EDC) and Dumas City
Commission implemented a community development grant program. The Dumas Economic
Development Corporation (Dumas EDC) is accepting applications at this time through March
23, 2012 at 5:00 pm. Dumas EDC seeks to encourage Dumas based civic and non-profit
organizations to undertake projects that improve the area’s quality of life. Quality of life is
typically about three environments: the social environment, the built environment, and the
economic environment.
Qualifying applicants include organizations that have received federal non-profit status (501(c)3
or 501(c)6). All applications will be considered; however, those entities that show a localized or
specific benefit to their organization alone will not be considered. All projects must be located
within Moore County. All interested organizations are encouraged to apply. Dumas EDC staff
will review each application to determine if the project is eligible for grant funds as defined by
the Texas Comptroller’s Office. Dumas EDC staff will also determine if the project matching
requirements are met, and if the project provides a significant quality of life improvement to the
community at-large. Each event must show tangible property that will be acquired in order to
hold the event. Any event or activity that restricts involvement or benefits to the community atlarge
will have a more difficult time receiving funds. It is in the organization’s best interest to
turn the application in as early as possible in case a revised application is necessary before
the deadline.
Applications and funding guidelines are available at the Dumas EDC offices located at 1015 N.
Maddox or on the website at www.dumasedc.org. For more information contact Grace Pierson,
Executive Assistant at 934-3332 or email a return receipt request to pierson@dumasedc.org. All
applications can be emailed with all attachments or delivered to the office no later than
March 23, 2012 at 5:00 pm. No faxes will be allowed.

The Vernal Equinox

The Vernal Equinox
Spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere on March 20, 2012, at 1:14 A.M. (EDT). On the first day of spring—the vernal equinox—day and night are each approximately 12 hours long (with the actual time of equal day and night, in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring a few days before the vernal equinox). The Sun crosses the celestial equator going northward; it rises exactly due east and sets exactly due west. Check out http://www.almanac.com for more information about the Vernal Equinox.
