Life is never a cake walk even if it is just walking to school these days.
If you have children attending Morningside, Dumas Intermediate School and the Junior High School you know the pain of waiting at several stop signs for the privilege of either crossing or turning at the intersection of not just one school but three.
Traffic near the Dumas Intermediate School seems to be of concern to the City Commissioners especially on 1st Street. TxDot had done a survey on the amount of traffic on 1st Street but it was done before school was in session and TxDot said it wasn’t enough to warrant a traffic light. Unfortunately accidents will have to happen before lights will even be considered. Be sure to drive carefully in any of the school zone now that school is in session again. City police are out there trying to make all the schools zones safe but you will see more precautions taken at the new Intermediate School on 1st and Texas.
